Abstract

306,439. Dixon, J. T. Nov. 18, 1927. Gelatine; adhesives.-Gelatine or glue to form sheets, filaments &c. is treated with 30-50 per cent of its weight of a. saponified fatty body such as linseed or castor oil, or a saponified sulphonated fatty body, whereby the flexibility, strength and transparency of the product is improved. The saponified material is preferably added to an alkaline solution of the glue; a hardening agent such as a chromate, formaldehyde or hexamethylene tetramine, may be added at the same time or the product subsequently treated in a hardening bath. By the addition of 1-2 per cent of phenol or sodium or potassium iodide to the product a hinding agent, particularly of use for producing splinterless glass, is obtained.
