Stoppers secured by clips. -A metal canister for preserves &c. comprises a cover B and a rubber washer interposed between it and the rolled edge D of the container A. Radially disposed clips G abut with their curved ends on the bottom of the part D and are pressed down on the cover to seal the closure. The clips G may be elastic or rigid and may have heel portions G<11> which engage the part B<1> on the cover. The rolled edge D may be reinforced by a metal &c. band and may be notched to accommodate and locate the clips. An annular groove may be provided in the body of the container A to accommodate the part B<1> of the cover to add to the airtightness thereof.
