Abstract

306,075. A. C. Spark Plug Co., (Assignees of Babitch, A. M.). Feb. 15, 1928, [Convention date]. Lever-actuated pumps; air vessels; diaphragm pumps; strainers.-Immediately beyond the outlet valve 88 is a chamber 90 with a dome member 92 having resilient means for delivering fluid during the intake stroke of the pump. The resilient means may be a spring- or air-pressed diaphragm 94 or merely the air trapped in the dome. The chamber 90 is formed in the head casting 64 of the pump which can be removed and adjusted to different angular positions. A removable strainer 76 and settling chamber 74 are carried on the head casting which also houses the non-return valves 78, 88 of the pump. The pump diaphragm 62 is secured between an upper bowed plate 57 and a lower plate 54 to a plunger 36 connected by a lost-motion linkage 30, 32 to a lever 26 actuated by the cam shaft 12 of an internal-combustion engine to effect the intake stroke, the delivery being effected by a spring 68 acting on the lower plate 54 of the pump diaphragm 62. The settling chamber 74 is secured to the pump by a stirrup member having associated therewith a screw 126 and nut 130 for forcing a cup piece 128 against the chamber 74.
