Abstract

365,203. Fuel pumps. SMITH, A. G., Cricklewood Works, Cricklewood, and DORER, P. 0., 36, Manor Lane, Lee, both in London. Oct. 21, 1930, No. 31625. [Class 102 (i).] Fuel :pumps for internal-combustion engines of the diaphragm or bucket type wherein the delivery stroke is produced by resilient means and in which a cam-operated lever moves the pump bucket against the resilient means to produce a suction stroke are characterized in that the pivot of the cam-operated lever is resiliency supported. A cam 28 actuates through the resilient lever 22 a pump rod 17 which is secured to a diaphragm 13. Between the diaphragm and the casing is the delivery spring 16, and there are provided the usual inlet and delivery valves 10, 11. The lever 22 has a yoke 26 riding over a pivot pin 25, and it is controlled by a spring 27 which bears against a projection 33. Under normal conditions of supply, the spring is completely compressed as indicated in the Figure. As the supply requirements vary, the yoke 26 moves relative to the pin 25 under the restraint of the spring 27 so that the whole or part of the lift of the cam becomes lost to the end 24 and the stroke of the diaphragm is correspondingly varied. The spring may be placed between the pivot and the end 24 of the lever. In a modification, instead of a yoke piece, the pivot pin may be carried itself by a pivoted lever whereby the main pivot pin can rise and fall according to the degree of compression of the spring 27.
