733,051. Diaphragm pumps. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Nov. 6, 1953 [Nov. 14, 1952], No. 30697/53. Class 102 (1). In a diaphragm fuel pump in which the diaphragm 12 is actuated by a cam 88 through .a lever, the pivot of the lever comprises a pin 78 which is a floating fit in bores 80 in the housing and retained in position by cup members 83 that are pressed into the bores. Alternatively, the bores may be grooved and the ends of the cup members expanded into the grooves to lock them positively. The rocker arm 72 is pivoted on the pin 78 and comprises two plates 72a and a spacer 72b riveted together. The spacer has a shaped end 86 which cooperates with the shaped end 76 of an actuating lever 70, also pivoted on the pin 78, which engages the rod 62 attached to the diaphragm 12. The rocker arm 72 actuates the diaphragm on the suction stroke and the spring 68 effects the delivery stroke. When the delivery pressure is sufficient to reduce the stroke of the diaphragm, the rocker arm can oscillate idly. The cover 22 is clamped by a stirrup 26 and the fuel enters the pump through inlet 46, passage 36, filter 49, passage 34 and inlet valve 42 and is delivered past outlet valve 44, air vessel 32 and outlet 48.
