Thermionic valve circuits.-The damping of an oscillatory circuit in a wireless receiver or the like is reduced by a negative - resistance device comprising a screened-grid valve. As shown in Fig. 2, the damping of an aerial circuit is reduced by variably coupling it to a tuned circuit 6, 7 connected between the anode and filament of a screen-grid valve 1. The inner grid 4 is maintained at a suitable low voltage, and the outer grid 3 has a higher voltage than the anode. An auxiliary screening-grid may be interposed between the screen-grid 3 and the anode. The degree of negative resistance applied to the aerial may be varied by adjusting its coupling to the circuit 6, 7, or by inserting a variable resistance in series or in shunt to the oscillatory circuit, or by varying the voltages of the electrodes. In a modification, a reaction coupling is provided between the aerial circuit and a tuned circuit connected to the inner grid 4.
