Abstract
271,915. Carborundum Co., Ltd., (Carborundum Co.). Dec. 8, 1925. Thermionic amplifiers and generators. - Selfoscillation in tuned thermionic valve circuits is regulated by a uni-directional electrically-variable resistance element. Fig. 7 shows a wireless receiving-circuit comprising an aerial 23 coupled to the tuned grid circuit of a high-frequency amplifier 27, the plate circuit of which is coupled to a tuned circuit 30, 30<a>. Across this circuit is connected a uni-directional resistance 31 (such as a diode valve, a crystal, or an electrolytic rectifier) in series with a variable source 33 of directcurrent voltage. The damping effect of the resistance 31 varies with the voltage applied by the source 33. The resistance 31 may serve alsoas a detector for the received waves, giving audible signals in the phones 32. Any source of oscillatory energy may replace the aerial as the input to the valve 27. Fig. 8 shows a pair of uni-directional resistances 47, 48 connected in opposite sense across the tuned grid circuit of a back-coupled valve. A variable battery 49, 50 is arranged in series with each resistance. Speci. fications 13636/13, 28413/13, and 172,376 are referred to.
