304,125. Aktiebolaget Ljungstr÷ms Angturbin. Jan. 14, 1928, [Convention date]. Railway locomotives, steam-turbine. - Comprises a turbine locomotive in which the efficiency of the turbine is arranged to be greatest at locomotive speeds between 25 and 75 per cent of the maximum speed permitted on the track, and in which at normal load the relation of the sum of the squares of the turbine blade ring speeds to the heat loss in the turbine is greater than 2800 : 1, the speed being expressed in metres per second and the heat loss in kilogram calories. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, a condenser is not employed, the boiler steam, which is superheated at 6, passing direct from the turbine 9 to the blast nozzle 14. The turbine is mounted directly on the boiler frame and drives the wheels through reversing gearing 11, toothed gearing, 10 and rods 12, the gearing being movably mounted in known manner relatively to the turbine. The exhaust steam may pass through a pipe 18 to a feed-heater 19 and thence to the furnace grate 20. A reversing turbine may be employed instead of the reversing gear, and a condenser may be provided for dealing with the steam for auxiliary machines. The turbine blades may be those described in Specification 293,009, [Class 110 (iii), Turbines &c.].
