Cooling condensers, air blast for; electromechanical apparatus, arrangement of: motive power, application of.-A steam-turbine installation for land vehicles comprises a high speed turbine with suitable transmission gear, one or more. highpressure small-tube, water-tube boilers generating steam above 30 atmospheres' pressure and having one or more water or steam and water drums, and an air-cooled condensing plant working in a closed cycle. A vehicle, Fig. 1, has a boiler 1 with upper and lower drums, a superheater 3, feed-water heater 4 and air pre-heater 5, a turbine 17, gearing 19, dynamo 20 and motors 39. The turbine exhaust passes into a jet or surface condenser 18, the water being drawn by a pump 31 and turbine 33 into a cooler 24 having a blower 25 and turbine 26. The warm exhaust air from the condenser may be used for heating or drying purposes. A locomotive, Fig. 5, has a boiler 43, superheater 44, pre-heater 45, highpressure turbine 49, low-pressure turbine 50, dvna,mo 48 and motors 42, while the turbines exhaust into a condenser 52. The re-cooler 53 is arranged on both sides of the locomotive and has an air inlet 54, blower 55 and turbine 56. The cooler 53 may be assisted by a spray, the loss from which is made good from tanks 60. The inlet 54 may be flattened and two blowers used, side by side, while the condenser or cooling elements may be arranged in the inlet 54.
