Abstract
389,681. Articulated locomotives. HENSCHEL & SOHN AKT.-GES., 2, Henschelstrasse, Kassel, Germany. May 26, 1932, No. 15002. Addition to 334,732, [Class 79 (i), Locomotives &c.] [Class 79 (i).] Comprises an articulated locomotive in which the steam is expanded in the main driving engine 10, 11 to a pressure above atmospheric pressure, is then expanded in one or more exhaust steam turbines 17, 18 to atmospheric pressure and condensed, the turbines driving the auxiliary mechanisms of the locomotive, and the condenser being air-cooled and formed in two or more parts 12, 13, each carried on a bogie 1, 2. The invention is shown applied to a Garrett-type locomotive in which the boiler unit 3 is carried on two driving bogies 1, 2. Steam passes from the boiler to the cylinders 10, 11 through a superheater 7 and articulated pipes 8, 9. The condensate is pumped back into the boiler by pumps 28, 29 which may be driven by the turbines 17, 18 which also drive the fans 23, 24 for the cooling air.
