Abstract
302,009. Bramah, H. P., and Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd. Oct. 22, 1927. Transmission gear between separate axles; transmission gear of invariable ratio; gearing permitting distortion.- Two or more pairs of track wheels 4 are driven through flexible couplings by quill shafts 7, 8, 9, which are journaled in a rigid box-like frame 10 and geared together and to the motor. The motor pinion 18 drives idle gears 16, 17 meshing with toothed wheels 12, 13 on the shafts 7, 8. The drive is taken to the wheel 14 by an idler 19. Two motors may be used to drive four shafts, in which case they are placed preferably on opposite sides of the vehicle. The quill shafts may be divided to accommodate a central box-like portion 50, Fig. 4, enclosing a flange 11<1> on the axle 1<1>, and connected to it by the coupling. In this case the gear wheel 12<1> may be dispensed with and the part 50 provided with peripheral teeth. Specifications 275,731 and 303,762, [both in Class 80 (ii), Gearing, Variable-speed &c.], are referred to.
