Abstract
301,945. Dorn, H. Sept. 1, 927. Sliding-jaw wrenches.-Relates to an adjustable wrench having a movable jaw 2, guided in a head 1 which carries, a fixed jaw 1<1>, and a handle 3 fulcrumed at 5, and consists in operating the jaw 2 bv a single cam 4, of the handle 3, so short that the wrench will not slip on the smallest sized nut and arranging the jaw 2 so that its ends are flush with the head when in the position of the minimum gap. The cam has involute faces 4<1> so that the line of contact 11, Fig. 3, is straight and the distance of this line from the fulcrum 5 is not more than about 1.2 times the radius of a circle circumscribing the smallest nut 13. Fig. 1, dealt with. The handle and cam have the same thickness as the guide 2<1>, Fig. 4, of the moving jaw and all are engaged by the side plates of the head. A spring 8 attached to the handle 3 and head 1 tends to close the wrench. When the jaw 2 is in its mid-position, Fig. 4, the gap is displaced, in the opening direction, relative to the notch 7.
