Abstract
189,904. Vanston, T. A. July 21, 1922. Sliding-jaw wrenches; jaw faces.-In spanners, pipe wrenches &c. of the type wherein the movable jaw is guided on an inclined surface of an adjustable jaw member so as to grip the object when actuated in one direction and to slip over it when actuated in reverse direction, the movable jaw is formed with arms which span the shank and retain the movable jaw thereon. The fixed jaw of a pipe wrench is carried by a shank a, on which the slidable block b is adjustable by a nut e, the block having an inclined face b<1> to support the jaw proper c. The sides of the latter are bent round the rear edge of the shank as at c<2> to retain it thereon. In a modification the block b, Fig. 15, is adjustable by a worm e and rack e', and the jaw c is retained in position by means of pins n adapted to contact with shoulders a<5> upstanding from the reduced part a<4> of the shank.
