Abstract
299,470. Jeanneret, B. H. Oct. 28, 1927, [Convention date]. Lighting burners by electric and frictional devices.-Gas stove burners are lit by sparkproducing means normally positioned at a distance from the burner, and actuated by means comprising a pawl mounted on a rotating part of the gas valve and co-operating with a slidably mounted rod. Fig. 2 shows an electric ignition device, comprising electrodes 4, 5 carried by arms 6, 7 of insulating material pivoted on shafts 8, 9 mounted on a sleeve 20 secured to the gas pipe. The arms are provided with gears in order that they may move simultaneously. The electrode 4 is in electrical connection with the shaft 8 through a conductor 13 and spring-pressed plunger 14, and the electrode 5 is similarly connected to the shaft 9, the two shafts being connected to a source of supply at, for example, 125 to 200 volts. The electrodes are normally covered by sliding insulating sleeves 17, pressed forwardly by springs. On opening the gas valve a pawl 1 carried by it moves a rod 22, which, engaging the arm 7, causes the arms to move to bring the electrodes into contact, the sleeves 17 being pressed back. Further movement of the tap causes the pawl 1 to disengage the rod 22, and the arms 6, 7 fly apart under the action of a spring 19, causing a spark at the electrodes'. The pawl 1 is then maintained by the rod 22 in the inoperative position shown in dotted lines, so that the valve may be further adjusted without affecting the ignition mechanism. Fig. 5 shows a frictional ignition means, in which a rod 30, operated from the gas valve in the manner previously described in connection with the rod 22, moves a pivoted arm 24 carrying the friction igniter 25, 26. On the forward movement, the wheel 25 is not turned, the teeth slipping over the teeth of a pivoted sector 31. On the rapid return movement of the arm 24, caused by a spring 28 when the pawl 1 disengages the rod 30, the teeth on the wheel and the sector engage, causing the friction wheel to rotate and produce the spark.
