Abstract

Extrusion machine; feeding.- Dough is fed from a hopper to a divider or cutter through a pressureequalizing chamber by a stationary feed roll associated with a rockable roll or plunger. Fig. 1 shows a roll 161, stationary with respect to the hopper 168, associated with a pair of rolls 162, 163 of which the roll 163 is carried by a cranked lever 164 operable through a rod 167 to close the chamber 157. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the hopper 224 is pivoted at 225 and is connected with a pair of rolls 216, 218 operable by a rod 228 and lever 214, the roll 218 being forced into engagement with the roll 213 by the wall 221 of the chamber against the action of a spring 220. Further modifications are described in which the roll 218 is replaced by a plunger in one or two parts. Fig. 8 shows a modification in which such a plunger 248 is connected to the hopper 231 and is associated with a blade 250 and discharges the dough through nozzles 254; the hopper may carry pawls 257, 258 engaging a ratchet on the shaft of the roll 233.
