A machine for delivering measured quantities of dough or meat filling comprises a metering chamber and means for filling this chamber which is responsive to the pressure in the chamber. As shown, material in a hopper 1 is fed by a feed roll 2 through a pressure chamber 3 and into a metering chamber 12c in a dividing cylinder 4. Rotation of the feed roll 2 is effected through a rack 15 and gearing 16, 17, 18 by a fluid pressure cylinder 13. The rack 15 is moved downwardly to drive the feed roll 2 when high pressure fluid is supplied to the upper end of cylinder 13. Return motion of the rack 15 is effected by low pressure fluid constantly supplied to the lower end of cylinder 13, but a clutch (not shown) prevents reverse rotation of the roll 2. When the pressure in the metering chamber 12c reaches a predetermined value, pressure in the upper end of cylinder 13 rises and a switch (not shown) is actuated to rotate the dividing cylinder 4 through 90 degrees. A pneumatically operated piston 11c then expels the material from the chamber 12c. The cylinder 4 has five such chambers, as seen in Fig. 1 (not shown). Upper and lower scraper blades 6, 7 are biased towards the feed roll 2 by a spring 10 and prevent escape of material from the hopper 1 and pressure chamber 3. Specification 1,006,112 is referred to.
