Abstract
1461761 Delivering metered quantities of granular material FOSCOLOR Ltd 16 Oct 1973 [16 Oct 1972] 47664/72 Heading B1C Apparatus for delivering a metered quantity of mixed materials to a receiver for subsequent use in an injection moulding machine, the apparatus comprising a hopper 1 for each material which is connected to a respective rotary metering device 2 each having a chamber 5, one of which is preferably adjustable by way of a screw member 6 and which defines the quantity of material to be supplied to a mixer 7. The mixer has a rotary mixing blade 12 located within a hollow cylindrical member 9 which is itself rotatable in a stationary housing with an outlet 8 which directs discharge from the mixer into a receiver hopper 13 connected to the injection moulding machine 15. In operation drive means (not shown) is actuated to simultaneously and synchron ously operate the metering devices 2 to discharge appropriate quantities of material through an opening in the wall of the rotary sleeve 9 of the mixer, the materials being mixed by the rotary blade as the cylinder 9 rotates, the mixture being discharged through outlet 11, when the opening in the cylinder wall coincides therewith, into the receiving hopper 13. The movements of the various devices are operated in sequence so as to discharge regular mixed and metered quantities of material into the receiver 13. The receiving hopper is pivotably mounted such that when an appropriate amount of material has been deposited therein the hopper tilts to one side of a vertical plane, and actuates a switch 17 to stop the apparatus. Likewise when the material in the hopper has been used the hopper tilts back in the other direction facilitating the starting of the metering and mixing devices. The flow of material between the metering devices and the mixer and the receiving hopper is effected under gravity.
