Abstract

Nov. 14, 1928, Stream-cutting Machines; extrusion machines. -Butter-cutting machines of the type in which an extended bar advanced by a piston is cut into pats by a rotary or oscillating cutter, is fitted with pawl-and-ratchet setting and feeding mechanism in which a pawl having an invariable stroke co-operates with an adjustable shield which is set to vary the size of the pat. A removable container 2 fitted with extension nozzle 3 has a flanged rim 5 for engaging the bed-plate. The racked piston 4 is advanced by the pinion 13 on rotation of the handle 10 to effect preliminary compression. The crank is then transferred to the shaft 12 and used to operate the crank 21, links 20 and pawl-carrying arm 15. The ratchet wheel 14 then rotates the pinion 13 stepby-step. The crank 21 also operates the reciprocating knife 26 through the medium of the rack bar 23 and pinion 24. The adjustable shield 17 is carried by a pair of levers 16 and is toothed along one edge to engage a pinion 19 which is set by a hand-operated dial 18 to prevent the pawl from engaging the ratchet wheel during an adjustable predetermined portion of its stroke.
