Abstract
205,521. Schell, J. H. Oct. 16, 1922, [Convention date]. Stream-cutting machines.-A machine for cutting cake, soaps, &c. into slices comprises a series of spaced cutting-members carried by a bridge to which members are imparted an up-and-down and a swinging motion, the material being advanced intermittently on the rearward movement of the members. As shown, knives 22 are adjustably carried at 23 by a bridge 17 rigidly secured to pillars 16 mounted upon eccentrics 13 carried by a main shaft 12, the bridge being also pivotally connected to links 20 anchored at 21 to the frame 1. The knives work through a slotted table 2 and the material is held, during cutting, by grippers 34 carried by rods 31, 32 and pulled downwardly by springs 39 against cams 14. The material is advanced along the table 2 between guides 11 by a plate 10 connected by arms 9 to a wooden roller 8 loosely journaled in slotted levers 6 mounted on a shaft 3 carrying a ratchet wheel 40 which is turned by a pawl 48 on a rod 47 reciprocated by an eccentric 46, on the shaft 12. A pawl 53 engaging a second ratchet wheel 41 holds the shaft 3 after each movement of the rod 47. When the plate 10 has advanced sufficiently towards the cutters the pawls 48, 53 are disengaged by a toothed sector 44, Fig. 3, and the plate is returned by a weighted lever 5; the sector 44 is then released by lifting the pawls 48, 53 by raising, by hand, the bars 47, 54 against the action of springs 49, 56.
