Abstract

497,386. Roughening bricks. BENTLEY, L., and GARFORTH, E. Sept. 28, 1937, No. 26189. [Class 87 (i)] A machine for ornamenting bricks comprises a vibrating ram or rams having means for imparting an intermittently revoluble motion thereto and carrying cutters adapted percussively to engage the bricks, and means for intermittently feeding the bricks beneath the ram. The rams 10 slide in guides 11 and are reciprocated by cams 9 and springs 13. Eccentrics 14 on the drive shaft 6 are adjustably connected by rods 15, 18 to levers 16, which carry pawls 17 engaging ratchet wheels 19 which impart an intermittent motion to the conveyer belt 2. A disc 24 is driven by a belt 22 from the axle 4 of a wheel 19, and a universally coupled rod 25 connects the disc 24 to a stud on a collar 12 on the ram, so as to impart an intermittent turning movement to the ram. The rams carry a number of radial knives 29 having serrated edges which stipple the bricks on one or more sides. One of the shafts 4 may carry a cam 32 which, through a lever 36, reciprocates a knife 35 to produce a wavy pattern on the bricks.
