Abstract
630,015. Punching-machines. ROTHENBORG, A. Sept. 20, 1946, No. 28239. Convention ,date, Sept. 30, 1942. [Class 31 (ii)] In a perforating machine having a vertically reciprocating punch and mechanism for feeding the material in any horizontal direction, the feeder is arranged below the work-table to co-operate with a spring-loaded press foot and is carried at the top of a vertical rod having an offset inclined portion guided in an inclined aperture in a rotatable member so that on vertical reciprocation of such member synchronously with the punch, the feeder is reciprocated horizontally to feed the material, means being provided to rotate the vertical rod with its inclined portion, whereby the direction of feed may be varied. A pointer may be provided rotatable concentrically with the punch to indicate the direction of feed and the press foot may comprise a glass plate with a central hole for the punch, whereby the work may be watched during punching. The machine comprises a vertically reciprocating punch 4 and a die plate 6, and a press plate comprising a glass disc 12 held in a supporting ring 11 carried by a yoke 14 on a spring-loaded arm 9, the glass disc having a central hole to receive the punch. The feeder comprises a rubber ring 24 supported on a rotatable disc 19 pivoted at 18a to the vertical support 16 which is connected by ball-pin joints 38, 39 to the shaft 36 so that it must rotate with the shaft 36, but may move axially or angularly thereto. The vertical support 16 has an inclined portion 17 engaged by guide member 31 which has a similarly inclined aperture and is rotatably mounted on arm 32 which is oscillated about the shaft 34 synchronously with the punch. On the downward stroke of arm 32 the inclined member 17 and hence the feeder rubber ring 24 are displaced to the left, the arm 27 is then oscillated downwardly to withdraw the feeder from contact with the material preparatory to the next cycle. By rotating the guide 31 and inclined portion 17 of rod 16 the direction of feed may be varied. Such rotation is effected by hand wheel 51, connected by gears, belt or chain to gear 46 fast with shaft 36, rotation of which is imparted to rod 37 and hence rod 16 and guide member 31. The direction of feed may be indicated by pointer 52 attached to bevel gear 53 so as to rotate concentrically with punch 4, the gear 53 being moved through gear 54, flexible shaft 55 and bevels 56, 58 synchronously with hand wheel 51. A control 35 may be provided to vary the stroke of the arm 32 and hence the rate of feed, in known manner.
