Abstract
532,940. Slicing-machines. BERKEL & PARNALL'S SLICING MACHINE MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., (Maatschappij van Berkel's Patent N. V. and Berkel C. F. M. Van). July 7, 1939, No. 19791] [Class 28 (ii)] A slicing-machine comprises a substance carrier which is inclined for gravity feed of the substance, a slicing-knife also inclined, and a knife-driving motor located in the space behind and below the inclined carrier. In one form, comprising an inclined substance carrier 7 with its support 8 reciprocable along guides 9A, 9B, an inclined disc-knife 10 journalled in a fixed bracket 11, and an adjustable slice-thickness gauge plate 12, the knife 10 is rotated by an electric motor 13 arranged horizontally on the machine base 6 at a point behind and below the carrier 7. The drive to the knife consists of worm gearing 32, an inclined counter-shaft 33, and chain gearing 34 extending through the bracket 11. A slice receiver 15 is pivoted at 23 to a sleeve 24 on the reciprocating support 8, so as to be reciprocated with the substance carrier 7, and is movable angularly step by step to make room for successive slices by means of pawl-and-ratchet mechanism 30 operated at the end of each return stroke of the support 8 and applied to a screw 27 operating a nut 26 connected by a link 25 to the receiver 15. In another form, the electric motor is supported by a bracket in an inclined position substantially parallel to the substance carrier 7 and knife axis, the carrier being supported by guides located in close proximity to the slicing plane so as to leave the necessary space for the motor. The motor shaft extends downwardly, and the drive is transmitted therefrom to the knife by chain gearing.
