Abstract

500,457. Slicing-machines. REVOUY, H. Dec. 28, 1937, No. 35898. Convention date, Dee. 29, 1936. [Clasa 28 (ii)] A machine for slicing joints of meat having substantially central bones, such as hams, comprises a plate 17 carrying a rod 16 which is passed into the previously drilled bone of the ham, the plate being mounted for rotation on an axis coincident with the rod 16, and for reciprocation along tracks 27 towards and away from a knife 1, which may be a stationary knife or a band knife, but. as shown, is a disc knife-driven by a belt 6 from a motor 2. The plate 17 is supported on an internally threaded ring 19 screwed on to posts 20, the ring being rotated in any appropriate manner to effect vertical slice-feed movements of the plate 17. The posts are screwed into a turntable 21 supported on rollers 24, the central shaft 22 having, at its lower end, a wheel 33 which contacts with a roller 34 when the meat is moved against the knife and the knife is about to contact with the bone. The roller 34 is driven by a belt 36 from the motor 2 and is mounted on an arm 39 which is pulled by a spring to keep the pinion 34 against the wheel 33 whereby the latter is frictionally driven to rotate the meat and complete the cutting of the slice. The carriage 25 is mounted on rollers 26 and is reciprocated by a handle 29 which is pivoted at 30 and urged away from the carriage by a spring 32, so that the handle moves against the action of the spring when the knife contacts with the bone. The slices are deflected away from the knife by a deflector 45. The knife may be arranged to reciprocate towards and away from the rotating joint.
