v AUSTRALIA.
CRUSHING AN D GRINDING MACHINE.
Application filed February 10, 1927, Serial No. 167,285, and in lAustralia February 19, 1926.
This invention relates to improvements'in crushing and grinding machines of this type in which a vertical reciprocating motion is employed to crush the material, and a revolvable surface to grind it against a lower fixed surface. The-invention more particularly relates to means whereby this reciproeating motion for crushing is effected with greater accuracy, less vibration and less wear than heretofore.
A machine of this nature comprises a base containing a crushing and grinding plate, over which a muller is-revolvable. The muller is carried by a vertically extending hollow shaft or tube, through which the material to be treated is fed between the muller and said plate. According to the present invention the hollow shaft or tube is rotated by a sleeve member mounted in suitable bearings and driven by gearing. The hollow shaft is also keyed or splined to the sleeve so as to permit of vertical movement therein. A circular guide way or collar is formed on the vertical feed tube. A split sheave or band is passed around this circular guideway or collar and is of such a size that the feed tube may revolve freely in said sheave or band. An operating lever is pivoted in trnnnions or other suitable bearings in the side of the machine frame and has one end coupled or connected by suitable means such pivots to the sheave or band so that it can control the movement of said sheave. A cam is mounted on a countershaft driven by worm or other reduction gearing.
An adjustable Contact plate or block is provided on the outer end of the operating lever, with which the cam contacts in order that said operating lever may be depressed at predetermined i tei-vals. This action causes the feed tube of the machine, and its attached grinding surface to be raised and descend on the material to be crushed between the revolvable and fixed surfaces of the machine.
'in order that our invention may be morek i bolted. Suitable bearings are provided in the Lipper' part of the frame work in which a sleeve 6 is rotated by means of toothed gearing 7 8. p
The feeding tube 9 slides through the sleeve 6 but is keyed or splined to rotate therewith. The lower end of the tube is formed with a flange 10 to which the muller is bolted. Above the lower flange of the feed tube a guide is formed between two collars 11. A slieave or band 12 is loosely mounted in the guide and has two pivot pins 13 on which are mounted the forked ends 14 of a cam operated lever 15.
rllhecam operated lever 15 is pivoted to the main frame and has a renewable contact face 16 which is engaged by the cam 17.
This cam 17 may have two or more arms, three being illustrated, and is mounted on a shaft 18 which is rotatedfby reduction gearing driven from the main shaft. 'The sleeve 6 is also driven from the main shaft by bevel gear 7-8 and chain and sprocket gear.
We claim:
1; In an improved crushing and grinding machine of the kind described, the combination of a frame, a vertically extending feed tube adapted to carry a muller, and a driven sleeve mounted in the said frame, said ver tical feed tube being connected to the sleeve for rotation therewith and for reciprocating movement therein and means, including a lever, to reciprocate said tube. i
2. ln an improved crushing and grinding machineof the kind described, the combination with a vertical feed tube of a guide formed by spaced collars thereon, a sheave in the groove formed between said spaced collars, a fork operating lever pivoted to the y frame and loosely connected to said sheave, a cam engaging said operating lever, a main drive shaft, andV reduction gearing for operating said cam from the said main drive shaft of the machine.
3. An improved crushing and grinding machine as claimed in claim 2 in which said cam operated lever has an adjustable contact plate or block thereon, anda cam is mounted onv a countershaft and driven by reduction gearing from the main drive shaft of the machine.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands.
AMOS CAMPBELL HAMEY. JOHN STONEHAM.
