Compound engines; working- fluid supply.-In a power plant comprising prime-mover turbine or reciprocating-elements 13, 17 of the compound type, the interstage steam is heated in two stages in a superheater 15. The steam is initially heated by a coil 21 supplied with saturated or, as shown, with superheated steam from the main supply, and finally by a coil 20 supplied with high-pressure steam from an auxiliary boiler 25 which may constitute a continuous coil or simple flash boiler. The steam from the boiler 25 may be saturated or superheated before passing to the coil 20. The steam supplied to the coil 20 is preferably entirely condensed therein, the condensate being returned directly to the boiler 25. The saturation temperature of the steam in the coil 20 exceeds the temperature in the coil 19. A circulating pump may be mounted in the coil 20 circuit. A modification is described wherein the main boiler and an auxiliary boiler of the circulating type are mounted in a common setting.
