Brakes, arrangement of.-In an automatic brake mechanism off the type comprising a spring controlled setting lever, a releasing lever actuated by the tone arm at completion of the record and a disc or segment with a notch or catch interposed between setting and release lever, the release lever is formed as a. pawl or catch to engage the notch in the disc and bears on the periphery of the disc in other positions. The mechanism is mounted on a plate n, Fig. 3 and 4, the setting lever b carrying the brake block p turning on a pivot a and engaging by a pin d thereon with a radial slot in a pivoted and notched disc f with which engages a release lever i turning on a pivot v and frictionally coupled by a friction washer z, Fig. 5, and spring w with a lever t extending into the path of the tone arm. At completion of a record the tone arm rocks the levers t, i to release the disc f, and the lever b is then turned by a spring c on its pivot to apply the brake. The tip of the notch in the disc is bevelled off, and the pin d is arranged to be nearer the centre of the disc in the set position than in the braking position, to facilitate accurate setting and release.
