Abstract

330,434. White, A. E., (Wilbur Products Co., Inc.). July 16, 1929. Brakes, arrangement of.-An automatic stop mechanism is operable jointly by a part moving with the tone-arm and a projection on the turntable to apply a. brake to the turntable when the needle presses into the eccentric or steep spiral groove at the end of the record. A fixed baseplate 14 has mounted thereon a pivoted threearmed lever 24, 26, 28, a pivoted brake lever 35, and a sliding controller 30 normally held by a pivoted lever 41 engaging a notch in the baseplate and having one end 42 bent up to lie between fingers 33 on the base-plate. An arm 12 moving with the tone-arm as the stylus tracks the record is carried against the end 42 to disengage the lever 41 from the notch, and when the stylus enters the run-out groove the arm 12 acts against the outer finger 33 to slide the controller on its guide pins 17, 29, and finally rock the three-armed lever so that the cam end 25 of arm 24 is contacted by a projection 13 on the rotating turntable, whereby the lever is rocked further and its arm 26 acts on a flange 39 of the brake lever 35 to rock, this lever so that its actuating spring 40 is moved across the centre of the pivot 21 and causes the brake to be applied to the turntable. The parts are reset by return movement of the tone-arm, the arm 12 acting on the inner finger 33 to slide the controller until. the lever 41 again engages the notch.
