Abstract

320,467. Scharf, H. Aug. 27, 1928. Brakes, arrangement of.-An automatic brake for the turntable, of the kind held out of action by the tone-arm during playing, is constructed and operates so that the arm normally contacting the tone-arm is moved clear thereof when the brake is applied, thereby avoiding knocking. Fig. 1 shows the parts in position during playing, the brake-block o, Fig. 3, being fixed to a lever i pivoted to a crank f on a spindle b with a bent part c having pivoted at d a rod carrying a roller e for contacting the tone-arm. These parts are mounted on a fixing bracket a, and the brake lever i can move laterally in a slotted bow k. A spring p causes the roller e to bear against the tone-arm. The parts are set by adjustment of the pivot h of the lever i in an arcuate slot g in the crank f, so that when the needle is in the last groove the brake-block o contacts the turntable s and is moved by it along the bow k and beyond a retaining spring so that the lever i is in the line joining the pivot h to the centre of the turntable. In this movement, the crank f is turned sufficiently to carry the roller e clear of the tonearm. The return movement of the tone-arm carries parts to the starting position shown in Fig. 1. Specification 307,205 is referred to.
