Abstract
203,142. Gramophone Co., Ltd., and Buckle, H. L. T. July 27, 1922. Brakes. - A gramophone brake comprises a hand-operated lever which, when moved in one direction, pulls the brake-member proper into the inoperative position, when moved in the other direction puts the brake on by disengaging a latch, and when moved further in the latter direction sets a trip-lever into position for engagement by the tonearm, to effect automatic operation of the brake. A member 16 carrying the brake-pad 21 is mounted on a pivot 15 on which is also pivoted a member 23, connected at 26 to a slidable link 27. A latch 10 is connected by a spring 19 to a lug 17 on the member 16, and, when in engagement with a notch in the latter, holds the brake " off." The latch 10 is mounted on the same pivot 9 as a triplever 11, and is frictionally connected to this lever. An extension 13 of the member 11 projects into the path of a setting-lever 4, 8 which' coacts with lugs 30, 31 on the link 27 and with a lug 14 on the arm 13. When the setting-lever is moved by hand into the position shown, the arm 8 actuates the link 27 and thereby moves the member 23 round so that a finger 32 thereon pushes against the lug 17, turning the brakemember 16 into the " off " position, where it is held by the latch 10. The motor is then free to run. By moving the lever 4, 8 so that its outer end is at the position marked " stop " on a scale 6, the member 23 is reversed until a cam 24 thereon pushes the latch 10 aside and so frees the brake. Further movement of the arm 4 of the setting-lever towards the right causes the arm 8 to move the trip-lever 11 into such a position that, on subsequent running of the machine, a member 12 carried by the tone-arm engages the lever 11 at the end of the playing of a record. Such engagement shifts the latch 10 and allows the brake to act. A spring 34 normally holds the lever 4 in a neutral position, in which its pointer is between " start " and " stop." The Provisional Specification describes a modified construction in which the connecting link between the brake-member and the hand-operated lever is directly pivoted to the brake-member.
