Stopping; raising sound-boxes. - Relates to devices carried by the tone-arm for arresting the turntable at the end or other predetermined part of a record, and consists in arranging the device to travel over a surface provided with an aperture or recess which permits descent of the device, when the stylus has reached the desired position, to apply a brake and also. in some cases, lift the sound-box. In Figs. 1 and 2, a lever 10 pivoted at 11 on the tone-arm 38 has a projection 20 adapted to ride on a support 24 adjustable about the axis 32 of the tone-arm. mounting for positioning a slot 31 formed in the support. When the stylus has, during reproduction, reached the end or other desired stopping position, the projection 20 descends into the slot 31 under the action of a spring 19 and acts on the arm 30 of a pivoted brake lever 27 to apply a brake-block 28 against the turntable 29. The sound-box 15 is lifted simultaneously bv a hooked extension 13 of the lever 10. A forked bracket 21 on the tone-arm flange prevents lateral displacement of the projection 20. The brake-lever pivot 26 may be connected to, or made integral with the tone-arm mounting. Another device for applying the brake at any predetermined position of the stylus, but without lifting the stylus, comprises a slider 43, Fig. 5, with handle 47 movable in a sleeve 45 carried by the tone-arm 44 and pressed down by a spring or weight. During reproduction, the end 48 of the slider rides on an arcuate member 50 adjustably mounted by slots and screws 51 on the tone-arm mounting for positioning a slot in the member, so that when the stylus reaches the predetermined position, the end 48 of the slider descends through the slot and depresses the arcuate end 57 of a pivoted brake-lever 56 toapply the brake-lever 65 to the turntable 66.
