Abstract

615,158. Gramophones. COSTA, H. DA, and PLESSEY CO., Ltd. July 30, 1946, No. 22656. [Class 40 (ii)] A manually-operated device for placing the tone-arm of a gramophone into the starting position, on a record according to its diameter, usually 10 or 12 inches, consists of a mounting 1 in which cam members 5, 5a are vertically movable by ends 14 of press levers 8, 8a acting in notches 7, 7a in the cam members 5, 5a, the sloping surfaces 6, 6a of which engage a catch plate 18 on the tone-arm 19, which is initially lifted thereby, after which the catch plate 18 slides down the slope 6 or 6a (according to which lever is pressed) until it comes against a stop 6b or 6c. The lever 8 or 8a is then released to allow the stylus to engage the record. The levers 8, 8a may be provided with projections 15 to operate the starting mechanism of the turntable motor.
