870,488. Automatic gramophones. STEIDINGER, O., and STEIDINGER, S., [trading as STEIDINGER GEB]. April 3, 1958 [April 4, 1957], No. 10829/58. Class 40 (2). A manually-operated means for placing a stylus into the lead-in groove of a record is characterized in that energy is simultaneously stored in a spring to cause the pick-up to be returned to its rest position after the record has been played. The placing operation is carried out by the pressing of a push-button rod 20, whereby a lever 22 lifts a cam-lever 6 and a stop lever 13 from the positions shown in Fig. 1 to the positions shown in Fig. 2. The cam-lever 6 lifts the pick-up arm 1 by means of members 4, 5 and swings it over on to the start of the record whereupon the lever 6 becomes latched by a pawl 10 and closes the contacts 28 of the turn-table motor. The stop lever 13 is provided with a surface 15 which determines the setting down position of the stylus, but drops to its initial position when the pushbutton is released. When the stylus reaches the end of the record, member 4 releases the latch 10 so that cam-lever 6, acting under the influence of spring 19 returns the pick-up arm to the rest position and opens the motor circuit. The latch 10 may be released before the end of the record by a left-hand movement of bar 20, as viewed in the Figures, whereby a projection 20a therein moves a rod 11 connected to the said latch.
