878,888. Automatic gramophones. STEIDINGER, O., and STEIDINGER, S., [trading as STEIDINGER KOMM.-GES. GEB.]. April 20, 1960 [April 22, 1959], No. 13761/60. Class 40 (2). To engage a gramophone pick-up with a stationary record but with the gramophone motor running, contacts 34 start the motor. when the pick-up is lifted by hand from its rest 26, the turn-table then being started by the linkage 24, 35, 16, 14, 13 moving an idler gear into operative engagement with the motor and turn-table against the action of a spring (Fig. 1, not shown). A spring 36 pulls the end of a lever 32 into locking engagement with a recess 37 on the lever 13 to maintain the drive when the actuator 24 is released. Automatic or hand return of the pick-up to the rest causes the edge 29<SP>1</SP> of a member 29 on its downward movement to rock the lever 32 out of engagement with the lever 13, spring means disengaging the drive at the same time as the motor is switched off. In another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), the start button 22 actuates first the lever 19, which starts the motor and initiates record-changing mechanism and a second, heavier pressure actuates the lever 16.
