Abstract

869,376. Portable gramophones. PYE Ltd. Aug. 18, 1959 [Aug. 27, 1958], No. 27498/58. Class 40 (2). A portable transistorized record-player for disc records comprises a case having an edgewise slit 2 for insertion of a record, a pair of grip - ping members 8, 15 for supporting and positioning a record for rotation about its central axis and an actuating lever 28, engageable by - the record on a step 31 to start the mechanism when the record is pressed fully downwards. A latch mechanism holds the lever 28 in the fully depressed position, whereupon the member 15, in clamping the record raises it slightly to clear the step 31. A motor 6 whose shaft 6a drives the member 8 via the friction wheel 9 is switched on and a further linkage (Fig. 1, not shown) swings the pick-up into engagement with the record. After play, pressure on a member 21 reverses these processes and releases the latch so that the record is sufficiently ejected by the step 31 to be removed. When the player includes a radio or is used in conjunction with a radio, further switches replace the radio signal to the audio stages of the radio by the pick-up signal when a record is inserted.
