In a gramophone, a drive-transfer jockey pulley 5. coupling the motor shaft 3 to the turntable rim 4 is withdrawn by the lowering of the pick-up arm 22 on to its rest 15, whereby a projection 23 on the pick-up arm moves a spring- loaded control member 14 downwardly in the rest 15 so that a bevelled lower end of the control member 14 moves a lever 7 about a pin 11 and withdraws the pulley 5 against the tension of a spring 9. The pick-up arm 22 has flexible side walls 24 which grip the sides of the rest 15 in which position it may be positively held for transport by a projection 27<SP>1</SP> in the lid 27 of the machine. The downward movement of the control member 14 also causes a projection 28 on the lever 7 to operate a motor switch 29 to the OFF position.
