Abstract
788,417. Automatic gramophones. STAAR, M. Dec. 14, 1955 [May 27, 1955), No. 35903/55. Class 40 (2). In a record player a record urged horizontally into position on the turntable causes starting of the motor and centring of the record prior to causing the release of the tone arm and placing of the stylus in contact with the record. The various movements and operations are controlled by a multi-armed lever 11 pivoted at a fixed point 12. When a record D is passed horizontally on to the turntable, its edge encounters an upstanding pin 10 on the lever 11 and moves it over the dead centre of a spring 19 so that the lever 11 moves from the position shown in Fig. 2 to that in Fig. 3. The position of the record itself is registered by a two-armed stop member 65. The initial movement of lever 11 closes contacts 16<SP>1</SP> to start the motor and, by means of the slotted arcuate portion 22, lifts the locating centre member 29 from the position shown in Fig. 10 to that in Fig. 11. An arm 57 fixed to the pin 10 carries a brush 56 at its end and during this movement cleans the stylus point. During the latter part of the movement of lever 11, a ramp 31 thereon permits a pin 32 engaging it to be lowered on to the record. The final movement of the lever 11 brings the pin 10 into engagement with the forked part of a member 61 to move one of its limbs out of the path of a member 45 carried by the tone arm 5, and thus permits the stylus to traverse the record. At the end of the playing of a record an interceptor lever 48, which has been advanced during playing by a pin 46 on member 45 and is mounted pivotally at 51 on lever 11, engages the toothed wheel 4 on the turntable shaft, causing the lever 11 to be swung back to its initial position, thus breaking the motor circuit, lifting the stylus, returning the tone arm and ejecting the record from the turntable by means of the pin 10. The brush 56 also carries out a further cleaning operation.
