[Class 40 (ii)] An attachment to a gramophone, particularly intended for facilitating the repeating of any desired portion of a language-teaching record, comprises a guide rail a adapted to overhang the turntable in a position adjacent to the path of the soundbox, a carriage c movable along the rail under the influence of a finger d projecting from the sound-box, and remotely-controlled means on the carriage adapted to raise the soundbox from the record, to return it to a previously played part of the record, and to lower it thereon. In the device shown, the carriage c comprises a plate e carrying a channelled member which embraces the flanged upper edge a<5> of the rail a. Pivoted at g on the plate e is a member f formed with a recess j in which the finger d engages, and a cam plate h is also pivoted to the plate e at i. The plate h, which has a curved surface h<1> engaging a screw k on the member f, and has projecting lugs n, o, is adapted to be actuated from a distance by means such as a Bowden cable l connected'to a thumb plunger m. When the plunger is operated, the cam plate h is swung upwards, thereby tilting the part f, so that the sound-box is raised. At the same time, the lug n shifts the finger d towards the right (Fig. 2) in the recess j. On the release of the plunger m, the cam-plate h returns to its normal position, and the sound-box is replaced on the record so that repetition of a previously played portion can then occur. A projection e<2> on the plate e bears on the rail a to exert a braking action during the return movement of the sound-box. The latter may be moved back through a considerable distance if required, by pulling back the carriage C, by means of the remote-control device, when the sound-box has been raised.
