[Class 40 (ii).] Comprises a device for use with a soundreproducing machine which enables the needle to be set back to any desired part of the record so that the reproduction from any portion of the record may be repeated. A standard d, Fig. 1, is mounted within a socket b having a set-screw c and carried on a baseplate a which is fixed to the machine casing. The standard d carries a guide e for a sliding rod g which has a retaining screw h and is provided at its other end with a bent plate i which is adapted to fit partly around the tone-arm. The plate i is normally spring-pressed into contact with the tone-arm to follow the movement thereof by a spring j, and when it is desired to repeat any part of the reproduction a screw f is screwed down to fix the rod g. The record continues to be played and, when it is desired to reproduce the portion just completed, the tone-arm is moved back up to the plate i. In the modification shown by Figs. 4 and 6, the guide e has fixed on its upper surface a plate n having a slot o along which slides a pillar q carried by the rod g and adapted to contact with the tone-arm. The plate n may be provided with a scale s and the pillar q may have an index line t to enable the pillar to be replaced to any desired position. A further modification is shown by Fig. 7, in which the plate n is lengthened and the guide e, rod g, spring j, pillar q and set-screw fare duplicated. The springs j retain the pillars q in contact with the opposite sides of the tone-arm and either one or both of the pillars can be fixed with respect to the plate n. By fixing the pillars q in close contact with the tone-arm, before closing the cover of the machine casing, damage to the tone-arm during carriage is prevented. An adjustable brush w may be carried by one of the pillars q to clean the record.
