Positioning sound-boxes; indicating particular parts of records; brushing records.-Relates to devices particularly intended for use on gramophones for teaching purposes, for enabling the soundbox to be readily set back to any given point on the record, so that repetition of any particular portion of the recorded matter may occur. According - to the invention a horizontal arm d is pivoted near to the axis of the tone-arm so that it can swing over the record, this arm carrying two parts h, i slidable but not rotatable thereon, the part i being adapted for connection with the tone-arm w, by means such as a ring t engaging a vertical pin u on a clamp v secured to. the tone-arm. Means are also provided for connecting the two sliders h, i together, the connecting device being such that when the sliders are attached together the part h is free to slide on the arm d, but when the parts h, i are disconnected, the part h is clamped to the arm. The device shown for this purpose is a hook s on the member i engageable with a spring latch l on the part h, a cam lever j serving to press down the latch l into a groove in the arm d when required. In use, the two parts h, i are connected together, and travel along the arm d. At any point on the record, the lever may be turned up as shown, to disconnect the parts h, i and clamp the part h to the bar, so that this part acts as a stop when the sound-box is to be moved back for repetition of a pa.rt of the record commencing at the selected point. The arm d is preferably graduated. The slider i may be provided with a brush (not shown) for cleaning the record. A stop y adapted to be clamped on the arm d, may be used to arrest the sound-box before the end of the record is reached, causing the needle to jump back into a proceeding groove; the matter recorded in one or two grooves at a particular part of the record may thus be repeated as many times as desired.
