Removing cylindrical records from mandrel; raising and lowering sound - boxes. - Relates to cylinder phonographs, and particularly to those used as dictating machines. There is provided :a device for ejecting the sound record from the mandrel, which ejector can be operated only when the sound-box is raised from the record. Fig. 3 is a rear view of the machine, and Fig. 5 shows the ejector-mechanism detached. A rod 29 having an arcuate head 30 is operatively connected to a handle 36, and is so arranged that on turning the handle the record is pushed off the mandrel 15 to some extent and can then be removed. The rod 29 is, however, free to be moved only when an arm 39 is disengaged from a notch 38 therein. The arm 39 is mounted on a square spindle 43, which also passes through a spring-controlled lever 47, journaled on the sound-box carriage 18 and having a toothed end 55 engaging with a cam 56. This cam is integral with the usual lever 25 by which the sound-box is moved either to the recording, reproducing, or " neutral " position. When the lever is at " neutral," i.e. when the sound-box is raised, the tooth 55 enters a notch in the cam 56 and the arm 39 is thus moved so as to free the ejector-rod 29. In the other positions of the lever 25, the cam turns the lever 47 and holds the arm 39 in locking engagement with the ejector.
