Abstract

699,397. Gramophone pick-ups. ELECTROACUSTIC GES. May 2, 1952 [May 2, 1951], No. 11141/52. Class 40 (ii) A gramophone pick-up unit is fitted with two styli and is supported in a housing by two bearings, one of which is fixed in the housing while the other is provided in a movable element of a switch device, the operation of which causes the pick-up unit to pivot about the fixed bearing. The pick-up unit 2 (Fig. 1), having two styli 4, 5, is supported in the housing 1 of the tone arm by a blade 6 engaging a bearing 7 of a bearing spring 8, and by a bearing spring 9 suspended on the bearing lug 11 of a switch segment 10, which pivots about pin 12. Clockwise movement of switch 10 about pin 12 from the position shown in Fig. 1 brings stylus 5 into the playing position in place of stylus 4. Two bearing springs 8 and blades 6 may be used to act as pick-up leads. An indication of which stylus is in the operative position is given by markings on the visible exterior surface of the switch 10. A sliding surface 15 may also be provided to guide supporting blade 6 on to the bearing 7 during the insertion of the pick-up unit.
