Abstract
787,108. Gramophones; stopping devices. MALATESTA, R. Jan. 20, 1956 [July 26, 1955], No. 1919/56. Class 40 (2). Two opposed trigger levers 3 connected to the motor switch and positioned one on each side of a cam 2 rotating with the turntable spindle 1 are lightly frictionally coupled to each other and to the gramophone pick-up so as to be capable of being shifted simultaneously away from or towards the cam 2, the coupling allowing independent movement of the levers. A slide 12 connected to the pick-up moves to the right as the pick-up travels towards the centre of the record and rotates pins 4 by means of levers 111 connected by a rod 13. The pins 4 have tapered points mounted in bearings, and each lever 3 is frictionally connected to a pin 4 by resting on a Range with interposition of a paper disc and is counter-weighted at 9. During the final runout of the pick-up, inclined surfaces on the cam 2 engage under the ends of the levers which thereupon tilt about the pins 4 and raise a bracket 10 whereby the motor switch is operated. The levers 3 are reset during the final part of the return of the pick-up by means of catches 14 on levers 211. To prevent the levers 3 from slipping off the cam a groove on the cam engages a tooth 103 on each lever or vice versa. Should it so happen that one lever 3 engages the cam 2 in such a position that the lever instead of being raised is pushed back the other lever engages the lobe of the cam after half a turn.
