Abstract

839,666. Automatic gramophones. BIRMINGHAM SOUND REPRODUCERS Ltd. Feb. 17, 1959 [Feb. 28, 1958], No. 6597/58. Class 40 (2). In an automatic gramophone of the kind described in Specification 823,749, means for stopping the machine after the last record has been played comprises a stop plate 23 and a cut-off lever.35 mounted for rectilinear and swinging movements during an automatic cycle such that they follow one path while the spindle of the record steadying arm is in raised position, and in another path to stop the machine when the said steadying arm spindle is in lowered position. Operation of a start button 26, Fig. 1, draws a latch lever 18 down to move a switch lever 15 to the ON position, and at the same time latches itself behind a pin 30. During an automatic cycle a plate 11 oscillates to and fro, and while records remain on the centre post, the plate 23 and lever 35 remain in the relative positions shown in Fig. 2. When the last record falls to the turntable (at a late stage in the automatic cycle) lever 35 passes, under the influence of a spring 38, partly into a notch 32, Fig. 3, on the steadying arm spindle 9, but is limited in such movement by a pin 41, Fig. 8, and serves to limit swinging movement of the stop plate 23 acted upon by a spring 45. After the return movement of plate 11 a projection thereon engages a pin 43 on lever 35 and moves the latter longitudinally by means of a pin-and-slot mounting 36 so that the lever 35 makes a further rotary movement to embrace pin 41 and permits stop plate 23 to move likewise, as shown in Fig. 6. At the end of the following automatic cycle, i.e. when the last record has been played, a projection 47 on plate 11 engages a pin 46 on stop plate 23 and moves it longitudinally to release, via a pin 20, the plate lever 18 and stop the machine.
