Loose-weight appar. atus.-In an automatic weighing scale of the kind embodying an arrangement for changi n g t h e weighing capacity and having a shock-absorbing device for damping the oscillatory movements of the weighing mechanism, the shock absorber is so arranged that its damping effect is changed with a change in the weighing capacity. In one arrangement. Fig. 2, a dash-pot 9 is mounted on a member 10 connected to. or forming part of, the usual manipulating lever 3 for changing the weighing capacity. When the manipulating lever is moved the piston rod 8 of the dash-pot is moved along a slot 12 in the weigh-beam to change the damping effect. In a modification, Fig. 3, the dash-pot is fixed, and the movement of the manipulating lever 3 throttles the air inlet and outlet at a valve 14.
