Abstract
289,397. Erkens, P. April 26, 1927, [Convention date]. Strainer separators. - In a centrifugal pulp strainer the material is drawn off in a direction opposite to that in which the centrifugal force acts. The separator consists of two drums T<1>, T<2> closed at the top, as shown, by a rim r; the inner drum T<2> is provided with ordinary pulp straining slits s and the outer drum T<1> is imperforate. The slits s are tapered and their wide ends are at the inner face of the drum T<2>. Continuously working spraying tubes Sp are used to keep the slits clear. The material is fed through the central tube M and passes to the space between the drums T', T<2>. The pulp is forced through the slits s and passes upwards over the rim r and falls into the gutter A. The impurities are thrown to the wall of the drum T<1> and remain there. The separating action is assisted by projections m on the outer face of the drum T<2>. The relative motion between the drums and the material causes local compressions in the material as it passes through the apparatus. The drums may be of conical form instead of cylindrical.
