Abstract

212,464. Barker, W. T. E., Rowell & Co., Ltd., D., and Cable, F. W. May 30, 1923. Refuse, dustbin &c., treating. - Paper or the like is separated from refuse material by apparatus comprising a canopy A over a travelling band G carrying the refuse. A centrifugal fan B or the like withdraws paper or the like from the refuse by suction through the canopy A and pipes A<1>, B<1> to a conical hopper C having parallel spiral ribs for dislodging the greater part of the dust from the paper, which then passes into a sifter D and is delivered laterally through an aperture D<3> in a wire or other basket. The dust-laden air is passed by a suction fan F or by gravity into a textile or other air filter H, where the dust is separated in the usual way. The sifter may be vibrated by a pulley and band gear D<2> to separate further the dust from the paper. An air relief pipe C<1> with fixed partitions breaks up the rotation of the air from the centrifugal fan in the usual way as it passes off.
