Abstract

In extracting palm oil and similar vegetable oils, the liquor or pulp containing the oil is passed through shock strainers or vibrating screens before admission into a centrifugal separator of the type described in Specifications 302,685, 312,997, [both in Class 23], and 400,809, [Group II], wherein the sludge deposited in the bowl is discharged periodically through peripheral openings. The object of the strainer treatment is to shorten the time of separation of the oil and to avoid clogging the centrifugal separator.
