Abstract

Printing-surfaces.-Flexible printing-plates are secured upon cylinders or other supports by placing one end of the plate in a slot in the cylinder, &c. and attaching the other end of the plate to a spring-actuated plate-tensioning member. The leading end of the plate 12 is slidden into a slot 18 formed by a space between a pair of members 14, 17 secured together and fixed to the cylinder 10 adjacent to one edge of a longitudinal recess 13. The plate is wrapped round the cylinder and its free end is then bent backwardly upon itself to form a hook 30 adapted to engage the hook-like edge 21 of one or a series of plates 20 mounted in the recess 13. The plate 12 is tensioned by springs 23 arranged between bearing lugs 22 on the plates 20, and abutment plates 24 mounted in recesses in the opposite walls of the recess 13. Slots are provided in the plates 20 to receive a tool by which the plates may be raised against the pressure of the springs 23 to release the plate 12. The plates 20 may be retained in the raised position by resting on ledges 26.
