Abstract

287,290. Smith., E. W., and Smith Meters, Ltd. Nov. 14, 1927. Gas meters.-Lubricant is applied to the valves 1 of a dry gas meter by means of a wick which is supplied from a sump 6 arranged either inside or outside the meter casing and positioned either below, or on a level with, or just slightly above the valve plate 2, surplus lubricant from the valves returning to the sump through channels 8 in the plate 2. Alternatively, the plate 2 may be .inclined slightly towards the sump for this purpose. The wick may be arranged to dip into the sump, or, as shown, the wick 15 may be supplied from a hopper 14 into which lubricant is raised from the sump 6 by a scoop 9 carried by an arm 10 which is rotated from the meter mechanism by gearing 11, 12, 13.
