In the inner surfaceofthe breech-block is 3 a t pocket 8, lined by means of a cup} for contain ing a solid carbide pellet I0, Projecting down wardlyt from the interior of the barrel, at the top thereof and in front of the breech-block, is a projection l I which hasathereina water chamber it l2 connected to a reservoir 13 by means of a passageway 14. The waterfchamber is provided withta rearwardly extending capillary opening l5 froni which water is sprayed bynieansof a( i plunger-l6 adaptedto be moved up andjdown in plunger is reduced, as indicated by the numeral the water chamberufThet upper end of the al'ljand passes throughya suitable opening pro.-

'It will be understood that I desire to comprehend within myinvention such modifications as ventioni H V Having thus fullydescribed my invention; what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: L
1; In a cannon, a barrelhaving a breech-block with means thereon for holding a pellet of carbide, a projection in the barrel having therein a water reservoir and awater chamber connected to the reservoir by a passageway and having an come withinthe scope'of 'rnyclaims and my inopening adjacent the carbide, and means for forcing water from the chamber through the opening onto the carbide.
2. In a cannon, a barrel having a breech-block with means thereon for holding a pellet of carbide, a projection in the barrel having therein a' water reservoir and a water chamber connected to the reservoir by a passageway and having an opening adjacent the carbide, and means for' forcing water from the chamber through the opening onto the carbide, said passageway being located in the projection slightlyabove the'open- 4. In a cannon, a. barrel having a breech-block with means thereon for holding apellet of carbide, a projection in the barrel havingftherein a water reservoiriand a water chamber connected to the reservoir by a passageway and having an opening adjacent the.carbide, and a plunger in the chamber for-forcing water from the chamber through the opening onto the carbide, said passageway being located in the projection slightly above the opening.
'5. In a cannon, a barrel having a breech-block with a pocket therein for receivinga pellet of car bide and aprojectionadjacent thepocket, said projection having therein' a reservoir and a water chamber connected to the reservoir and-having1 an opening leading toward the pocket, and means to force water from the chamber through the o neu r 6. In a cannon, a barrel having .a breech block with ,a pocket therein for receiving a pellet of carbide and a' projectionadjacentgthe; pocket, said projection having therein agresertyoir and with a pocket therein to receivea pellet of car bide and a projection having. therein.,a -water reservoir, 2. water chamber, :a passagewayfrom the reservoir to the chamber and anopening from the chamber toward the pocket,- said opening being beneath the passageway, and a plunger in the chamber adapted to close the passageway and force-the water from the chamber through the opening onto the carbide in the pocket.
8. In a'cannon, a support, a barrel pivotally 'mounted adjacent one end on the support, a breech-block on said end oi? the barrel, said breech-block having a pocket therein for holding tion, and a water chamber connected to the reservoir by a passageway and having an opening extending toward the pocket, anda plunger in the chamber adapted to close the passageway and force the water in the chamber through the openmg. g v i 9. In a cannon, a support, a barrel pivotally mounted adjacent one end onthe support, a breech-block on said end of the barrel, said breech-block having a pocket therein for holding carbide, a projection extending downwardly in the barrel between its point of pivot and the breech-block,. said projection having therein a. water reservoir extending from the. top of the barrel to a. point near the bottom of the projectio'nand a water chamber connected to the reservoir by a passageway and having an opening ex.-
force the water in the chamber through the open-y ing, said. water chamber having its upper-end closed by a plug which serves to limit the upward j movement of theplunger. 1 I
10, In combination in a cannon, of'a cannon barrel, means suspended within the cannon for containing-liquid, said means having. an access opening or supplying liquid from without the 511. A new article of manufacture foruse a.
li quidsupply means for gas eannonscomprising V a casing having intercommunicating dual reservoirs, one of said reservoirs-having an opening communicating. therewith from the exterior of the cannon at the top thereotand the other of said reservoirs having an opening communicating with the interior of the cannon at the bo ttom thereof, and a plunger in the second or said reser voirs adapted to shut ofi communication between said reservoirs and to' eject the fluid from the second reservoir intothe cannon.
